Superwoman Sits for Exam Thirty minutes After Giving Birth

A 21-Year-old woman from Metu in Western Ethiopia has a birth story that she’s going to tell her children for a lifetime. Almaz Derese shocked her friends and family by sitting for an exam she had been preparing for during pregnancy. She took the exam just thirty minutes after giving birth.

Derese went into labor on Monday just hours before her first exam was to begin, she was so eager to graduate this year that even the labor couldn’t stop her from appearing in the exam.

She was allowed to sit for her Maths and Amharic exam in the hospital and will appear for the remaining exams at the exam center.

In Ethiopia, a large number of girls do not complete their Secondary education due to early marriages and childbirth. But Derese’s husband had been supportive and encouraging. He persuaded her to attend school despite being married and even after getting pregnant.

She further stated: “Because I was rushing to sit the exam, my labour wasn’t difficult at all”. She also claimed that the exam went well and she is now going to prepare for University.

Her baby is doing well and she is getting plenty of support from her husband and family so she can continue studying.
