Three Essential Board Games for You and Your Friends

Board games are always there for you when you need them. Whether it’s a rainy day, you’ve run out of conversation topics, or you just want to take a break from screens for awhile, board games provide an easy source of entertainment. Unfortunately, they are often relegated to the dusty corners of dimly lit closets, and forgotten. There are a huge variety of entertainment options in today’s world, and the prospect of doing something that isn’t electronic or has internet connectivity seems to be a boring one to today’s generations. However, that can be reversed by a simple change of mindset – board games can easily entertain, and have done so for generations. Today, we have a curated list of some of the industry’s best board games. These are designed to pass hours of fun, and since the games chosen are all for four players, you’ll get some quality social time out of the whole experience, too.

Catan (Settlers of)

One of the predominant staples of board game culture, Settlers of Catan has been played for generations. The game involved building a civilization, through the acts of allocating resources, establishing settlements, and expanding territory. The game can be tough for beginners, as there is plenty of strategy involved, but its simple rules and user-friendly gameplay means that everyone can be a quick learner. If you like world-building, role-playing, and using Machiavellian strategy to outwit your friends, then this game might be for you.

Scrabble

A hallmark of the classy family game night, Scrabble is one of the most popular board games around. Although it has been somewhat replaced by the easily accessible Words With Friends and Scrabble Online, there is still much to be said for playing the game IRL. Quick thinking is necessary, and depending on what dictionaries you decide on using, you can easily lose your head (and your turn) if you and friends begin challenging other people’s words. If spelling was never your forte, and you know the word you’re thinking of but it’s on the tip of your tongue, then Scrabble might not be for you. But if you want to play anyway, can always be sneaky and beat your more well-read friends by using a scrabble word finder, which will almost certainly ensure your victory.

Clue

Last but not least, Clue is one of the most famous board games ever invented. While every game is different, it’s all achingly familiar, and even if you’ve never played you’ll likely pick up on some references that might’ve flown over your head previously. A game of deduction and strategy, it can be played by up to six people, which can get pretty chaotic pretty fast. A big part of your job in-game is keeping track of every detail which presents itself, and depending on the speed and agility of your fellow cluemasters, those details can come pretty fast. Not to mention, Clue was adapted into a widely recognized and hilarious comedic film starring Tim Curry. So if board game night isn’t cutting it for you and your friends, you can also indulge in a little cinematic experience.
