16 States Sue Donald Trump Over Border Wall National Emergency

WASHINGTON – In a strict move, 16 US states sued the US President Donald Trump after his decision to impose National Emergency for not getting enough fund to build border wall on the boundary with Mexico. All these states have called his act. “unlawful and unconstitutional.” The states filed a lawsuit against Trump after his declaration of National Emergency which these states believe cross the power of the president and are completely unconstitutional. Donald Trump demanded $5.7 billion from the US Congress as funding to build a border wall. However, the lawmakers sent him a government funding bill which only granted him an amount of $1.375 billion for the wall.

On the other hand, citing Trump’s 2016 Campaign promise, White House officials said that they believe that they could arrange the additional $6.6 billion through the emergency declaration and budget efforts. However, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said the demands of Donald Trump for border funding is useless as there is no border crisis. Also, he claimed that the US president would lose the case in a court.

“President Trump treats the rule of law with utter contempt,” said California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a Democrat. “He knows there is no border crisis, he knows his emergency declaration is unwarranted, and he admits that he will likely lose this case in court.”

After California filed the lawsuit in the Northern District of California, Donald Trump claimed that he will lose the case which would be heard by 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. However, he further said that it is not the last case, as he would continue his fight even in the Supreme Court. It will be interesting to watch what course this case will take in the coming time when the court announces its decision. The names of states which have participated in the lawsuit against Donald Trump are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Virginia.
